Mark and Madison were great. We went with a big family group and all remarked how much fun it was. Would absolutely recommend this to other folks visiting the area. It was seamless, they had complementary snacks / water and we got a little history and science lesson about the area too.
Great experience. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Amelia island. Saw dolphins and a lot of amazing birds. Peaceful.
Met our tour guide Madison at the Melton Nelson Boat Ramp. He outfitted my wife and I and one other, loaded us into our single person kayaks and then guided us up and down Lofton Creek. The creek originates from spring water about six miles upstream. We rowed a couple miles up and then back. Very little current, so it was an easy row. Lots of trees and vegetation on both sides of the creek. The anticipation of seeing an alligator certainly made the trip a little more suspenseful, but unfortunately we saw no alligators, only turtles and birds. Madison was very helpful and shared lots of information about the area.
Friendly and knowledgeable -- these folks were experts on the water, kayaking, flora and fauna, and the numerous birds we saw. They went out of their way to make us feel safe and comfortable and it was a wonderful experience (my first)! The 2-hour trip was perfect for a beautiful morning outdoors in Autumn.
We were able to make a day before river kayaking reservation with Amelia Island Kayak Excursions for a group of 10, with kids ranging from first graders to high schoolers. AIKE accommodated us and provided an informational and enjoyable paddle, even in the warm pouring rain! Everyone had a great time! There were even some great restaurant recommendations included! Always happy to support a family owned venture, especially when they are as friendly as AIKE.
First and foremost we had a very enjoyable tour of Lofton Creek, even though it was late December and not many critters were out and about. We are experienced sea-kayakers so we can't speak to the novice kayaker experience, but for those more comfortable on the water, it was great to have all the heavy lifting taken care of by someone else, and to have all gear and safety equipment provided. We also experienced the rarity of our hosts never allowing our feet to get wet upon entering or exiting the kayak....a very rare treat indeed. Aaron, our primary guide, is a certified naturalist, and by the end of the tour we'd learned many interesting details about alligators, why mosquitoes don't like Florida's black water creeks, and that Palmetto is a name shared by both a plant and a bug. To let you know how much we enjoyed our experience with the Amelia Island Kayak Excursions team. We rented kayaks from them for a second day in order to take a self-guided paddle through Eagan's Creek.
